Eureka! Now I am about to exit this blog and re-enter. Bear with me. This has nothing to do with LibTech, really.

Her I am again for my third try.

I did want to comment on the article Richard left, but I am too tired. My pearls of wisdom will have to keep until another day.

Good luck on the midterm,everyone!

Hi Karen,
Yes I had some trouble signing in as well. I had to go to google and sign in there. I hope this works now. Sending good vibes out for the exam.

Comments on Blogs - they can be very interesting but they can also be quite time consuming. Oh, if only we didn't need sleep.
Good luck on the exam tonight or tomorrow.

Well, I am posting a comment here (during my midterm) because the link provided to the "midterm" blog comes up as "Page not found."

I am NOT anonymous, this is Karen

good grief, I am SSSOOOO (loud shout) relieved to hear that :
1) it's not just me who struggled with this after doing just fine (really) before, and
2)that I am not the only one who got "URL not found' for at least one (for me, more than one) of the websites last night. So, this blog for calss has served its purpose now ... enabled us to connect . Ha.

On a more serious note , it occurs to me that there is one aspect of computers in libraries ( or any other workplace for that matter) that none of us touched on ( I don't think): that is, professional develpopment.

Big time. I know some of us are young and just starting out; for them, this class is post-secondary. For some others ( me) it is the only way possible to some carreer development and personal satisfaction.
Were it not for online ed with all its pitfalls ( some of mine could have been solved with two minutes of MR. Baer at my elbow for some rapid-fire give-and-take, right there on the spot so I don't forget all my questions, which I am doing at 6 am or on my coffe break or while frying eggs for dinner ... you get the picture.) Where was I going with this ...oh yeah.... for all its pitfalls, without it I for one would still be a frustated circ clerk with a big Workmans' Comp claim for hand damage. Instead, I am on my way to something more interesting. Plus a good example to my kids of the value of lifelong learning!
So hurrah for computers in libraries, form the career point of view.

Gosh, I enjoyed this section on searching (WWW). Not near as good at it yet as I'd like to be, noo doubt about it ... but just being aware of all the techniques, and above all, Boolean!
I am not planning to work on the info/ref desk (cataloguing being my big love ... imagine, paid to be anal about the position of a colon), but this is all so helpful for private research and study! I am already seeing a difference in my history hobby. Just being able to weed out unwanted hits more effectively, and to be aware that all the sites don't work alike.
Can you believe it, I have worked in the library for years (and have already taken Readers' Services with good results)w/o knowing the difference between a directory and a search engine??
Never too old to learn ....
